Meet the Counselor
Andrea Rees, LCSW

One upon a time there was a little girl named Andrea who absolutely loved to help people. She came by this rightfully since both of her parents were social workers. Problem solving, helping others in a tight spot made her little heart sing. Her teachers noticed too and encouraged her to be a counselor when she grew up…. A thought she just loved. So that became her direction. Her beacon. Her guiding light. Help others get through difficult times.
She began working with children as a mother’s helper in her small neighborhood. Children were very fun to support since the world was so new to them. Later, she worked in group homes with people that had profound disabilities. Andrea loved this challenge because communication barriers were often the issue. Removing these barriers made communication completely dependent on behavior. Andrea soon realized behavior is everything. Every human behavior is communicating something. Figuring that out is half the battle.
After Andrea graduated high school she enrolled in college classes at Idaho State University. You will never guess what her major turned out to be… social work. Her love of the field continued. She loved her classes and continued to work to pay for school. She got a job as a caregiver through a home health and hospice company. Her experience working with people on hospice only deepened her love for the human experience. She realized how connected we all are and how we all navigate very similar experiences.
Andrea graduated with a degree in social work and her career was absolutely filled with every type of human experience. From working in hospitals, rehabilitation facilities, inpatient locked units, Andrea received training in all areas of human life. Every age, illness, disorder, substance, every part of what a human could experience, Andrea witnessed and helped with. She went on for about 20 years in her social work field. At some point she got married and had two of the most amazing children in the world. Life shifted to more of a family life and less career driven until one day the big “D” came into her life. Divorce. What was she to do now? No job? Two boys to care for? Andrea did only what she had always known, social work. She decided to level up and go back to school to get her masters in social work and become a therapist. Some would say going to school while getting a divorce would be ridiculous. Not Andrea. She wanted to know more. She graduated from the University of Denver and immediately began working in mental health clinics. Again working with all types of situations and individuals, which she loved.
Andrea is now looking for a new adventure, divorce counseling. She wants to help others through a situation she herself found beyond challenging. Andrea has learned a few things and is excited to once again help others.
